LIVELIHOOD PROJECTS FOR RURAL SELF HELP GROUPS
With a one billion population, India represents 16.7% of the world’s population. Country has witnessed a three fold increase in population over the last half a century but the economy has not been able to cope up with this rate of growth. Being heavily dependent on agriculture, livelihood in rural areas could not provide employment for everyone. In the rural areas, agricultural workers form the bulk of the unorganised sector. It has been seen that women from Villages are traditionally poor and this does not let them pursue any opportunities. Lack of specific skill and low knowledge about alternative occupation and less utilization of available resources leads to low economic conditions. The only way out of this spiral is training trade people in trades which can give them good revenue & at the same time encouraging them and guide them in the art of running business.
Dairy Farming and Goat Raring is the important source of subsidiary income to the small/ marginal Population from rural Villages.
Objectives of our proposed Livelihood project is :
To initiate Agri-based Enterprise amongst the SHG’s.
To develop entrepreneurial skill amongst the group members.
Dairy: with the Contribution and participation of group members this activity will be implemented in 6 villages at Usmanabad District. All the members were provided the buffalo’s each. They will take regularly care and management of it, regarding that they were provided appropriate trainings.Through the project Regularly they will collect milk and store it in a central place for sale and they will get good revenue through this enterprise.
Goat Raring :Goat is called Cow for poor people. Those people who don’t have sufficient
resource for farming Cow, for them goat Farming is a good alternative. Poor people can fulfill their regular need of milk through goats.
With the participation of men and women members form our SHG’s. We will initiate this activity in 7 Villages at Usmanabad district. Each group member will be provided the goat. Base on the object of enterprise goat has been selected by the members. Regularly members will take care of their goats. For the suitability all the goat will be purchase from the local area.
ESTABLISHMENT OF EFFECTIVE OLD AGE HOME
Need of the Program – The elderly population in India is continuously increasing and also the problems faced by these people are increasing simultaneously. The number of people in old age homes is constantly increasing and also most of the parents are now deciding to live in old age homes rather than living with their children. Nowadays these people are facing the problems like lack of care, emotional support and economic support from the family etc. Our culture recognizes the status of the parents as that of God. A moral duty is put on the children to take care of their parents. But nowadays what we are observing in our society is that the children are not willing to take care of their parents, they do not want to spend money on them, they are treating their parents as aliens, and they do not want to share an emotional bond with parents. These children are forgetting that the foundation of their life is built up by the parents. They areforgetting their moral and ethical duties towards their parents. This isbecause of fast life, industrialization, money oriented minds, inflation etc. Children have no time to look after their parents because of their busy schedule and as a consequence of this situation the elders are getting neglected. At this age almost all the people need some kind of support.
After a certain age health problems begin to crop up leading to losing control over one’s body, even not recognizing own family owing to Alzheimer are common in old age. It is then children began to see their parents as burden. It is these parents who at times wander out of their homes or are thrown out. Some dump their old parents or grand parents in old-age homes and don’t even come to visit them anymore.
In the rural areas older women have more critical problem than older men. Due to social and traditional family structure they are forced to live with many limitations. Hence they find themselves marginalized and isolated all the time.
Our efforts will be to provide and lead a life of security, care and dignity.so that senior citizens will be able to live a normal life. This will be a great relief to the parents and senior citizens.
For the establishment of Old age Home, Suitable pollution free land will be selected. Base on the need analysis data of senior citizens Requirements, we will structured the old age home. Focus will be given to the following important aspects
- Appropriate mechanism to be set-up to provide need-based maintenance to the parents and senior citizens.
- Providing better medical facilities to them.
- For institutionalization of a suitable, mechanism for protection of life and property of older persons.
GOSHALA PROJECT FOR RURAL SELF SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
A major part of India’s population lives in rural areas. Though our national economy is totally agro-based is a known fact, no longer the agriculture be a substitute to meet the needs of rural people. Unemployment is the major cause of rural poverty and migration of rural people to urban areas.
The proposed project aims towards holistic development of villages. The indigenous cows rearing in small group of dairies (10 cows per dairy and at least 5 dairies in one village) and processing of cow products are the major activities for sustainable income and employment generation involving weaker sections of the society i.e. small marginal farmers, SC/ST, women, unemployed youth etc. The key resource here is Cow.
Local people will be given training as per need for their skill development and processing of the material to fetch more income for them. The project establishes rural industrial estates for efficient utilization of local available resources based on integrated cycle of cow. This will create number of employment opportunities in the area, thus rural people will earn and generate more income, thereby, reducing poverty level existing in the area. The proper management and potential utilization of locally available resources without disturbing the environment will make the village self reliant.
Key features of the proposed project are based on holistic development of rural areas:
- Integrated cycle of cow based products and its backward-forward linkages for income and employment generation in rural areas
- Self reliant local energy generation from cow dung (biogas for cooking, lighting and electricity generation)
- Supply of cow milk and its products after value addition and prevention of malnutrition in the area
- Encouraging shifting from chemical agriculture towards organic agriculture
- Growing medicinal plants and herbs for rural local health care
- Waste land development for food, fodder, fiber and employment generation
OBJECTIVES:
The proposed project is formulated for the following objectives:
Integrated cycle of cow products and it’s backward-forward linkages for income and employment generation in rural areas
